Staff Editorials
My contribution to “The Communicator” was largely through staff editorials. Here are the ones I wrote and co-wrote.
The History Edition
At its inception, CHS was never meant to be this successful. We were never meant to outscore Ann Arbor’s traditional public schools on standardized tests. We were never meant to win the Blue Ribbon award. We were never meant to annually send students to the Ivy League. But, we do.

The majority of CHS students are not eligible to vote. However, we are still impacted by politics in our everyday lives. We have grown up in the shadows of a divisive political climate, and because of this, we are more eligible than ever to get involved.

The Health Edition
The week leading up to the Ann Arbor Public Schools’ district-wide closure passed by in a whirlwind. As the Covid-19 pandemic exploded globally, a domino effect occurred: first the cancellation of afterschool activities were announced, then high school sports and finally, the closure of all school buildings for two weeks.

Everyone has defining moments that shape who they are, but how do these moments happen? As students, we have pushed ourselves to create these moments that make us “bloom,” but in reality those defining moments are, more often than not, unintentional.

As youth journalists, we are told that we are writing the first draft of history.
Our endeavors as Communicator journalists start from our first minute on staff. AP style grammar lessons, interview exercises and pages of transcriptions were not established practices to help us earn a good grade. We were preparing for our role as youth journalists.
