Studi
overview.
Finding a quiet place to study on campus is a common frustration. As part of a semester‑long project, my team of four designed Studi, a web app that lets University of Michigan students discover and rate study spots. We wanted to combine the familiarity of social media with a functional directory to take the guesswork out of studying.
features.
We prioritized features based on informal surveys with classmates:
Eight-metric rating system: Let students review spaces by comfort, lighting, noise, crowd level, and more — detailed enough to be useful, but simple enough to submit in seconds.
Feed + profiles: Added social elements for peer trust and discovery, letting users view spots reviewed by friends or trending on campus.
Leaderboards & directions: Gamified exploration and made it easy to get to new locations directly through integrated maps.
Each feature was designed to make finding study spaces faster, more personal, and more collaborative.
final deliverable.
The final deliverable included four high-fidelity screens, an interactive prototype, and a cohesive typography and color system that defined Studi’s visual language. The prototype showcased full user flows —from discovery to rating — and was used in our team pitch to 35+ stakeholders, where the project was officially launched. The design emphasized clarity and approachability, setting a foundation for engineers to implement quickly and consistently.
developer handoff.
I collaborated closely with the engineering team to translate design into code, preparing annotated Figma files, exporting assets, and documenting interaction details to ensure precision in implementation.

takeaways.
Studi was my first true end-to-end design project — from research and concepting to final launch and developer handoff. I learned how to turn ambiguous ideas into structure, communicate clearly across disciplines, and think critically about scalability early on.
If I revisited this project, I’d focus on testing with more diverse users, simplifying the rating system, and exploring real-time occupancy data to make the app even more actionable.
